As A Man, Finding A Personal Style Should Be Simple
When getting ready for work in the morning or prepping for a date, one of the most innocuous but important choices is what to wear. The right outfit can make the difference between making a great first impression and camouflaging what you really have to offer.
The largest slice of the fashion industry pie is devoted to women and creating a rainbow of flavors and designs to fulfill the every whim in a woman's mind. What about men?
Teenage boys in their jean skinny styles and long greased hair or slouching extra-large jeans held up with narrow belts well below the butts of hip hoppers are declarations of what these boys are into. As adults, men should find a personal style to suit them that doesn't adhere to any particular trends.
Once the overly flamboyant fashions of the Victorian era passed, men's clothing styles have followed similar and fundamental rules that look fresh and stylish decade after decade. Three piece suits, vests, dress shirts, polo shirts, slacks, cashmere and even leather jackets are all timeless pieces that any man can adopt. The most important facet of these pieces is their fit- it cannot be overstressed that the defining characteristic of a great outfit is the tailoring involved fitting an individual's body.
Using classic pieces as dogma in outfit construction isn't the way to go about solidifying a sense of style. Looking at men's style icons for inspiration can act as a template to discovering your own self. The leather brown boots of actor Steve McQueen, the black turtlenecks of musician Bob Dylan, even the iconic eyeglass frames of film maker Woody Allen identify them.
Trying to keep up with the times is anathema to being truly stylish- attitude coupled with clothing that is so neat as to be almost invisible is what separates men from boys and is incredibly seductive to women.
The fashion upside for men is an insistence on simplicity. Accessories are sparse at best from a knotted scarf, to a streamlined men's sport watch, to a wedding ring. Finding the silhouette that works for your body shape without straining to make your shape work for the clothing is a fashion rule that crossed both genders. Clothes do make the man if they are picked with simplicity and elegance.
